iDermal, the piercing video that has gone viral: Dave Hurban from Dynasty Tattoo in Newfield, New Jersey installs four surface anchors in his forearm, screws in magnetic tops, and then uses the piercings to attach his iPod Nano. The video now has over a million views and has been featured in local news (here and here), design and tech sites (here and here) and even Reuters.
Is it a great video? Undoubtedly. Is it a great idea? Admittedly, yes. (You can’t pay for this type of publicity.) Will it work long term and—most importantly—will it heal? Probably not. Surface anchors on arms are difficult-to-impossible to heal already, and adding weight like that will almost guarantee irritation and quick rejection. This shows (again) that what makes a great video and what makes a great piercing aren’t always the same thing.
